James Williams is an autistic adult, and a fan of anime and My Little Pony. During his formative years, he underwent therapies to improve social functioning. In adulthood, he noticed that many of the friendship lessons featured in MLP:FIM mirror many of the social lessons that he and other autistic children routinely are taught during social skills instruction.

He has hosted panels on autism and disability awareness at cons since 2015, and has served as a volunteer and/or staff member at cons since 2012. He is also a professional recorderist who performs adaptations of music from various fandoms, including the My Little Pony fandom.
